DOOM LOOPS

‘Doom Loops’ is Brandon Joseph Baker’s series of photography and mixed media collages exploring life in San Francisco and The Bay Area. The series title is lifted from media sensationalism surrounding the state of socioeconomics and culture in The City. Baker juxtaposes photographs he captured of San Francisco skylines, Alcatraz Island, vintage magazines, objects from his childhood and recurring symbolic totems featured in his previous series, Painted Ladies and Nuclear Spectrum. Equal parts tongue in cheek parable and bold brightly colored symbolic art therapy for his experiences, Doom Loops begs to challenge the viewer’s perception of reality and their understanding of the narrative surrounding their existence in San Francisco and the world at large. This opening was part of the inaugural Dive Bar Art Crawl, which Baker helped orchestrate across 9 bars. Read here for the SF Gate coverage of the night.
