My first piece of 2024 is a continuation of the home theme I began with my solo show Painted Ladies in 2023. Collaging photographs I took of the structures around my studio in Oakland: the columns, girders and abutments of the CA-80, the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility, the West Oakland Post Office building, Saints Peter and Paul Church in North Beach and multiple San Francisco Victorians, I constructed a new idea of home to begin the year. The neon green is a hue opposite of the neon pink I’ve been using in my work since 2019 and is symbolic of the changes to come this year. Around the collage I’ve hand painted the energy I feel after a tumultuous, exciting and rewarding 2023.
